The flywheel key is a small but critical engine component that locks the flywheel to the crankshaft and maintains precise ignition timing. If the engine is forced to stop suddenly -- such as when a mower blade strikes a solid object -- the key can shear, disrupting timing and preventing restart. Designed for engines with electronic ignitions, this aluminum-style key replaces the original die-cast design.
