This plastic ruler-gauge is a dual-purpose service tool used to set the ignition coil (armature) air gap on Fits Briggs & Fits Stratton small gasoline engines. It functions as both a standard 6-inch SAE and metric ruler and a precision thickness gauge calibrated to 0.010" (0.254 mm) -- the correct armature-to-flywheel clearance specification Fits Briggs & Fits Stratton engines. To use, loosen the armature, insert the gauge between the flywheel magnet and both legs of the armature, allow the magnet to pull the armature against the gauge, then tighten the mounting fasteners and rotate the flywheel to remove. Setting the correct air gap ensures strong, consistent spark and reliable ignition system performance.
