This hydraulic cylinder piston seal (Caterpillar part 1407649, also formatted as 140-7649) is a double-acting KR-type seal used in the hydraulic cylinders of Caterpillar backhoe loaders, skid steers, and track-type tractors. The seal seats in the piston groove and prevents hydraulic fluid from bypassing the piston, maintaining pressure and enabling smooth cylinder extension and retraction.
